Chelsea Eats
Chelsea Eats is a guaranteed income program developed for the residents of the City of Chelsea, Massachusetts, a community among the hardest hit by Covid-19, both from a health and an economic perspective. By combining city general revenue funds, state aid, and philanthropic contributions, the City assembled enough resources to distribute debit cards to approximately 2,000 households, replenishing the cards on a monthly basis for a total of six months. We developed an identity for this program, incorporating the iconic Maurice J. Tobin Memorial Bridge which connects to Boston. Through social media, print ads, and text messaging in English and Spanish, reached a large community of people in need. The chosen 2,000 households documented their spending habits each month via a survey website and spending data from the cards was collected for deeper analysis of the program.
